How Much Does Motorcycle Insurance Cost?

Vertical Divider
Motorcycle insurance, like just about every other type of coverage, is underwritten and priced based on a number of different risk factors. Some are determined by things like the kind of bike you ride, where you ride it, your age, and the limits and deductibles you select. Others, though, may be directly within your control. So, while there isn't a simple answer to the question, it definitely makes sense to know what you can do to reduce the cost of your motorcycle insurance coverage.

Factors that Impact Motorcycle Insurance Premiums | Motorcycle Insurance

The starting point for any motorcycle insurance company will be some basic rating factors relating to you and your bike.

These include:
  • The make, model and year of your motorcycle;
  • Your age, gender and marital status;
  • Where you live and where you'll ride your bike;
  • Whether your motorcycle is stored inside of a garage or outdoors;
  • Your driving record; and
  • Your accident and insurance claims history.
Clearly you don't control all of these items, but there are some steps you can take that will help you save money on your motorcycle insurance.  For example, being a careful and safe driver, obeying traffic laws and avoiding accidents will always go a long way in keeping your insurance premiums as low as possible.

If you're shopping for your first motorcycle you should pay special attention to those with the best safety ratings, since the make and model will have significant impact on your premiums. Another great idea is to enroll in and complete a motorcycle training course before you hit the road.
